2027 Social Security payment schedule
Each row is a month in Social Security's schedule. Dates in bold with an asterisk are paid early because the usual day is a weekend or federal holiday, so some of them arrive at the end of the month before. Social Security paid in a month is the benefit for the month before (the January payment is December's benefit); SSI is for the current month.

How your payment day is set
- Most people are paid on a Wednesday set by their birthday: the second Wednesday for birthdays on the 1st–10th, the third for the 11th–20th and the fourth for the 21st–31st.
- Spouses, children and survivors are paid on the day set by the birthday of the worker whose record they're paid on, not their own.
- The 3rd of the month: people who started getting Social Security before May 1997, and people who get both Social Security and SSI, are paid on the 3rd, along with a few other cases (such as some people living abroad).
- SSI is paid on the 1st.
- Weekends and holidays: a payment due on a Saturday, Sunday or federal holiday comes on the business day before.
Months with two SSI payments, and months with none
When the 1st is a weekend or holiday, SSI arrives at the end of the month before. That isn't extra money: it's next month's payment, early. In 2026, July, October and December each have two SSI deposits, and March, August and November have none. In 2027, April, July and December have two and January, May and August have none. The January 2028 payment arrives on December 30, 2027, because New Year's Day 2028 is a Saturday, observed on Friday, December 31.
When the 2027 COLA arrives
Social Security announced a 3.6% cost-of-living adjustment for 2027. It starts with the benefits paid in January 2027. SSI recipients, and people paid on the 3rd, see it first, in the payment that arrives on December 31, 2026. If a payment doesn't arrive
Social Security asks you to wait three additional mail days before contacting it about a missing payment. Then call 1-800-772-1213 or contact your local office. Check first that your bank details in your my Social Security account are current.
