How much do psychiatrists make?

The median annual wage for psychiatrists was $281,870 in May 2025, so half of workers earned more and half earned less. The lowest-paid 10% earned less than $84,060 and the highest-paid 10% more than $446,520. As an hourly rate, the median is $135.51. About 27,980 people work in this occupation nationwide. The highest state medians are in California ($353,500), Louisiana ($345,040) and Alaska ($342,170). After taxes and local prices, though, a median paycheck goes furthest in Louisiana.
